About Me

I have been "learning" to sew since I was old enough to literally hang around my Mama's neck watching her sew!  To say I was "taught" to sew would be inaccurate to say the least!  I learned the basics by watching and doing.  I never liked reading the pattern directions...I would look at the pictures for each step, figure out what was supposed to be done and attempt to do it!  If I didn't like how the pattern said to do it, I would figure out a different way.  I was never going to be a couture clothing designer, but I could at least add to my wardrobe!  Looking back, this probably wasn't the best approach, but as a kid, it worked for me!

Now, over 50 years later, I am still "learning" to sew!  I say "learning", because let's face it...Quilting and sewing are two different things!  The basics may be the same i.e. stitching a seam, but the mindset is completely different!  No more puffy sleeves and pleated seams!!!  Flat, smooth & perfect joins are the new goals, which is why I say..."I am still learning to sew"!!

I have been making quilts for about 15 years and realized early on that quilting the tops on a domestic machine was more than I was up for!  I truly admire those who are able to man-handle a large quilt through that small space!!!  With the help & support of my sister-in-law, Debbie Norman York, I purchased a HandiQuilter Fusion at the AQS Paducah Quilt Show in 2010 and have been learning long arm quilting ever since!

This blog is dedicated to promoting the craft of quilting and the sharing of lessons learned along the way!

Happy Quilting!
