Good Morning!!!

I hope everyone had a joyous Christmas and wish for you a Happy 2017!

It's been awhile since I've taken the time to post any pictures but wanted to share the most recent customer job although calling it a "customer" job seems inappropriate!  The quilt is a family project among the "Sample" gals!  The paper-pieced leaf blocks were made by my sister-in-law Debra "Sample" York, the hand appliqué was done by my mother-in-law Barbara (Bobbie) Sample and I did the quilting!  The pattern is Pieceful Garden by Mary Sorensen.

Morning!

Wanted to share a few customer quilts with you today!

The first is a Charlotte Angotti project from one of her workshops that my customer attended!  It's difficult to see from the pictures, but the fabrics have a beach theme!

We chose a swirling design to compliment the linear piecing!  She was very happy with the finished quilt and was equally excited that this one is "hers"!!!

Next up are two quilts by the same customer!  The first is a quilt with a basic design but she chose a quilting motif that gives it a nice pop!  See if you can recognize the design!  I will say that the design was a challenge but when I finally got the hang of how to do it, all was well!!!

Design is called Dogwood Blossoms

Her second quilt is a Christmas theme quilt so we chose a design called Curling Poinsettias.

The backing is flannel!

She was happy with both quilts and she too was excited that these were for her!!!

Quilters are a very generous group because seldom do we do anything for ourselves!!!  The joy of making the quilts is in the giving!

Until next time, stay safe!

Good morning!

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer!  Hard to believe it's almost over!

I've steadily been working on my quilt queue and have two I've recently finished and wanted to share...

This quilt has a different center and border design AND has a flange.  In the past I have pinned back the flange but I decided to baste it back this time and like it much better (and safer too since pins can get in the way and break a needle!)

The customer was very happy with the way it turned out which always makes me a happy camper!!

The next one is a quilt my sister-in-law Debbie York designed and made.  The hexagons are English paper pieced and hand appliquéd to the background blocks.  My mother-in-law, Bobbie Sample, made many of the hexagon blocks for this project.  Debbie used batiks for the top which gave the hex's a more "modern" feel.  Deciding how to quilt this was a challenge, but I finally decided to also quilt it with a more "modern" style.  We both were happy with the results!

Each corner had a hexagon, so I decided to run the border quilting design "under" the hex.  Needless to say, this required a lot of stopping and starting!  I used two different "flower" designs for the hex's that I alternated on each block of a row.

At first, I kept seeing the blue triangles and center square as an "anvil" block and was stumped as to how I should quilt it!  When I finally changed my focus and saw the hexagon area as a "snowball" block and the blue squares as sashing cornerstones, the design came together!!  Perspective is a peculiar thing!!

Notice how straight Deb's "lines" are!!  She does a GREAT job of piecing!

Thanks for viewing and hope you have a great week!

Until next time,
Leah

Good morning!

I hope everyone has had a nice week since last visiting!

Mine has been challenging to say the least!  For those living in this area, I hope the storm Thursday evening caused no damage!  We lost power around 6 p.m. and was still off when I left Friday morning for work!  Showering with a flashlight is such fun!!!  Then to add  insult to injury, the power was off at work!  The system switches over to emergency power so we are functional, but again, working by flashlight and the light from one window between the two workrooms is challenging!!

View from the door walking in!

Reflection from the window on the refrigerator & freezer
The instruments are on emergency power but the computers that operate them aren't, so out came the extension cords!  On a good day with all of the instrumentation in the lab, the temperature can be temperamental.  Well, Friday it was having a tantrum!!  Hot, hot, hot!  Multiple fans helped swirl the hot air around but we took what we could get!!!  Many thanks to Arkansas Quilters Guild for the use of the power cords and strip that I keep stored in the office!!  Power was finally restored Friday night at work and all was well when I went in Saturday morning!

Must keep the instruments cool!

When did ours come on at home?....Noonish on Saturday!  Thank heaven for modern conveniences!!!

Until next time,
Leah

Good morning!

I'm still here!!  I know it's been quite a long time since I've last posted!  What can I say but "life happens"!

I have been able to work in some customer quilting jobs since I last wrote....

Client made quilt using blocks embroidered by her mother-in-law.
Quilt is for a grandson's wedding present.

A simple but effective quilt pattern!

A lovely fun quilt!!

Pokemon
I couldn't take a picture of the whole quilt (on a king size bed to boot) so
you'll have to use your imagination!!!

Another charity quilt for AQG

Until next time...Happy quilting!!!

Greetings!

I'd like to begin by giving my gratitude to the men and women of the armed forces who have sacrificed their lives so that we may continue to live free.  May God bless them, their families and friends.

I recently attended "Decoration Day" at Trinity Cemetery in my home town of Bono, AR - it is a memorial service to remember those who have passed in the recent year and honor those in service who have lost their lives in the protection of our freedom.   People come from all over to decorate the graves of their loved ones, and flags are placed on all service men/women's graves.  It was a beautiful day and I am appreciative of the hard work done by the trustees in preparation for the event.

I finished a "custom" customer quilt a couple of weeks ago.  I don't consider myself "artistic" in the sense that I can draw, paint, etc., so choosing designs for a custom quilt can be quite difficult (and time consuming) for me.  I tend to be a "visual" thinker so it takes quite a bit of research for me to get things headed in the right direction!  I often reach out to my quilting buddy Eddie Landreth!  Between us, we'll get through the "difficult" decisions!

Below are a few pics of the project - and luckily for me, the customer was very happy!!! I always worry it won't be what they had in mind even though their directions are "whatever you think"!

Have a great weekend!!

Afternoon!

Just finished another customer's quilt!  The pattern is Take 5 and the quilting design is Splat by Anne Bright!  My customer chose both the thread color and quilting design!  I think she made great choices!!

Now...if the photographer could catch up with the quilters, we'd be in tall cotton!!!

Until next time!

Morning!

Home from vacation and back at it!!!

Quilted a sweet little baby quilt this morning!  Quilt is a combination of piecing and fussy cutting a panel!  Really a cute little project!

Quilting design "Time Travel" reflects the theme of the quilt - Time!

Now...if I can just get the laundry done...

Until next time,  Happy Quilting!
